Our Curriculum
Samana International Academy (SIA) is an independent alternative to a traditional school, and is not affiliated with the Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Education. SIA offers a rigorous, well-rounded education model that extends beyond traditional classroom walls. Our curriculum combines strong academic foundations with hands-on, project-based learning in our outdoor farm and nature-based environment. Students engage in real-world applications of math, science, language arts, and social studies while developing critical thinking skills, creativity, and a deep connection to nature. Learning is enriched by the cultural richness of Samaná through outdoor exploration, community projects, and experiential lessons that foster both academic excellence and practical life skills.
SIA primarily uses The Good and the Beautiful, a comprehensive, non-denominational curriculum emphasizing faith, family, nature, and high moral character, and aligns naturally with our values and educational philosophy. To meet international standards and support diverse learners—particularly in the upper grades—supplementary materials may be recommended, including options for honors, AP-level coursework, dual enrollment, career pathways, and accredited diploma tracks. Our curriculum serves expat and world-schooling families, preparing students for university, careers, and global citizenship.

Local Dominican-style lunches with juice are available to purchase by the week for 1000 pesos per week. Parents are responsible for providing their child's school supplies, and we are happy to recommend local vendors where you can purchase everything needed for your child's successful school attendance. We strive to keep our supply lists practical and affordable, ensuring families can easily find what they need in the Samana area. Transportation: There are many options depending on where you choose to live. Families share carpooling, take local buses from Samana, or share rides from Las Terrenas, El Limon, or Las Galleras. Please email us for more information.

Children ages 8 - 14 may join us for one week or two! Dates: July 13 - 17 or July 27 - 31, from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. daily.
Sponsored by SIA, these summer sessions are curated for a small, cohort field experience for globally minded students seeking more than a traditional summer camp! Designed for worldschooling and internationally educated families, this 5-day coastal immersion blends marine biology, environmental science, geology, cultural study, and outdoor adventure across the extraordinary landscapes of Samana. Students do not just visit the locations, they study them!
